“How Will Our Planet Accommodate the Mobility Needs of 8 Billion People?”
During our second annual live debate, an international panel of five experts explored how planetary limits could reshape freedom of mobility from technology, business, and lifestyle perspectives.
The results of an exclusive survey carried out by YouGov and the participation of students from three leading universities further fueled the fact-based discussions.
Replay of Live Event
Following presentation of an exclusive survey conducted by YouGov, the 2024 debate looked at three key dimensions of this year’s topic:
Technology: the students from ENSA Kénitra challenged our panelists on the role of technology and innovation in optimizing use of the increasingly scarce natural resources needed for the mobility of people and goods.
Business: the students from HEC challenged the panelists to examine how existing business models and solutions could be transformed to enhance accessibility for all, while minimizing environmental impacts.
Social Justice: the students from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management (Brandeis) challenged the panelists on how current mobility habits and lifestyles can be changed to address the climate crisis while offering greater social justice and equity.
YouGov Survey
The online research company YouGov, in partnership with the Freedom of Mobility Forum, unveiled the results of an exclusive survey measuring the appetite for change in mobility habits for respondents across five countries (Brazil, France, India, Morocco, United States).
The results show that less than 10% of respondents have started making profound changes in their transportation options, signaling that we’re only just beginning to rev up for bigger changes ahead. They also show that 1 in 4 global citizens see younger generations as key in driving change for greener transportation.
Young Perspectives
Located in three different regions, and with a focus on different disciplines, the selected universities – Brandeis University (United States), HEC Paris (France), and ENSA Kénitra (Morocco) – and their students further encouraged the exchange of ideas by bringing the perspective of the younger generations to the debate.
More on the ideas and insights of the students from the three universities is provided in the reports available for download below.
